A true cultural complex, the Imperial Centre for Arts and Sciences is located in both newly constructed and in rehabilitated historic tobacco factory buildings, covering a full city block in Downtown Rocky Mount. Buck Leonard Exhibit The Buck Leonard Exhibit is located in the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences. It contains artifacts from Buck Leonard’s playing career and personal items that depict his accomplishments over a lifetime. Buck Leonard is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The Children’s Museum And Science Center Housed within the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences in Downtown Rocky Mount, the Children’s Museum and Science Center is the hub of exploration and adventure; housing North Carolina’s first digital planetarium, permanent and rotating art exhibits, a puppet theatre, live animal habitats and a NC Coastal “living” marsh.
The Maria V. Howard Arts Center Located at the Imperial Centre for Arts and Sciences, the Maria V. Howard Arts Center includes three main components: a visual arts building with nine rotating art galleries, a theatre, and an education center that are always buzzing with activity. The Art Center’s permanent collection includes over 400 pieces of art, many of which are by NC artists. Additionally, the Gallery Shop sells a wide variety of clay, glass, accessories, and more. The Theatre At The Imperial Centre The Theatre, a 300-seat facility, is home to one of the state’s finest community theater groups. Local and traveling productions range from the best of Broadway to nationally known musical and theatrical performers.
